My winter sports kept me busy throughout January – starting February, making up for lost time.
PD’d Autumn calving cows – fortunately the bulls had been working very well. Many are back in calf to Nealford Politician or Maraiscote Pedro. The cattle outside on stubble turnips are looking very well as it has been a kind winter to date – not too wet / cold / windy.
The beef price is strong at the moment and we have quite a few bulling heifers to sell. It is a difficult task to decide whether to keep / sell or kill. The strong blood lines and growth rates make it a very difficult decision. I do have pedigree Limousin heifers for Sale- various ages.
The marketing – live or dead stock – with the abattoirs and their high spec is becoming an increased challenge. The live market is becoming more appealing particularly with young growthy bulls who are overweight for abattoirs at 12 months.
