Two new junior sires have joined the Killerton Herd this month. Both were selected based on growthy blood lines, conformation, temperament and supported by good EBV figures.
ROSECROFT HERO s. Wilodge Cerberus, d. Brickhill Carol was purchased from local limousin breeders David and Anne Wheeler. Hero has been shown successfully this year at many westcountry events.
The Scottish, fully homebred EMSLIES HORNY s. Emslies Colossus (gs Objat), d Emslies Erotic was purchased at the Carlisle Autumn Show/Sale. Horny was judged Overall Champion at the sale by Mr M Cursiter who described him as “as modern and stylish bull with very good muscling, conformation and mobility”. This well grown young bull is now running with a small group of autumn calving cows.
Commercial and pedigree bull calves were weaned at the end of the month whilst the heifer calves were left with the cows. The heavy rain this month meant that cows were moved off river meadows earlier than usual to stubble turnip fields for out-wintering.
All winter cereals were planted and potato harvest finished. Maize was chopped in good conditions.
