The clocks changed at the end of October and in came the winter weather together with dark nights.
A number of cows with calves were housed, larger calves being weaned off. The dry cows were subsequently wormed and moved to be out-wintered on stubble turnips. The winter fence moving work began.
At the beginning of the month I took Killerton Soliver to the Agrifest South West event staged at Westpoint, Exeter. He was placed first and won the Bull of the Year prize.
I went to Brecon for the Limousin Society Sale on 12 November. Killerton Soliver was sold – he had been shown successfully in the south west this year and I was sorry to see him go. A full report of the sale together with photos can be seen on the British Limousin webpage

Killerton Snapdragon was also sold – but trade was certainly very selective.
Beef sales are holding which is positive – given that our costs have gone through the roof. Long may it continue.
Young spring born bulls ready to wean off
Arable crops are looking very well – slightly winter proud. Aphids have been a bit of a problem but hopefully we are on top of them
As to the future direction of Killerton Limousin – no firm decision has been made as I am awaiting response from the National Trust on their future plans for the land at Columbjohn Farm. The time is ticking. Potentially if we leave the farm in 2023 there will be a reduction in livestock numbers required – If you are looking for breeding females or bulls please get in touch.
