At long last the cattle have gone out which has been a relief as it has been a long winter. Strip grazing cows and calves to make the most of the grass available and the rest will be silage. Round bales this year as due to vacating Columbjohn farm – no silage pits have been erected yet.On the back of leaving we have decided to have a second Reduction Sale of Pedigree Limousin cows, calves, bulls and heifers. This will take place at Exeter Livestock Centre on 14 July. The Sales catalogue can be viewed on the Kivells website

I took 3 bulls to the Royal Cornwall Show and came home with several rosettes which was good news. Sadly the young bull that did very well broke his leg 10 days later – sod’s rule!
Bull sales at markets have been variable but thankfully a lot of repeat business has meant some have been sold off farm.
I tried Winter Barley at the end of June – to make sure the combine was in order and everything worked. Moisture was 14.8%
