March started off with the Brecon / McCartneys sale. There were only a few bulls forward and sold. I was lucky to sell two through the ring and have reserve champion with Killerton Nelson. Buyers were very selective and lacking confidence. I hope things do improve.
I arranged for Dan Bird to attend a DIY AI Course at a local vet practice, which was subsidised by AHDB. He enjoyed the course and we will have to see how successful it was in the future.
Freddie (Jason Down) has been busy looking after recent calves which has been a bit of a challenge. Changing weather conditions caused cryptosporidium which took a few days to get on top of. But now things have improved thankfully
The say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb – the tail end of the month has been much improved. Grass has been slow to grow on the river meadows, fertilizer has been applied to most of the grassland and all cereals and they are now looking much improved.
Next month is going to be very busy – we have a Charolais sale in Exeter on April 12th and a Limousin / S.W . Club sale at Holsworthy on 24th April. There is also a new sale at Frome Market on the 17th April which we will be supporting. We seem to have a large surplus of limousin breeding heifers at the moment so we would potentially have quite a few for sale. We shall keep a few back as replacements but the rest will be sold.
