Monthly Diary – March 2015

A cold month to start calving (with mixed results, sadly) but the ground has been dry for out-wintering cattle. Cereals and grass are slow getting going due to night frosts but the dry weather means the arable side is up to date.

The decision to give up growing potatoes has taken a lot of pressure off – some kit is still for sale including a destoner, planter and harvester. The temptation to revert farm policy is not there at the moment even though the rest of what I produce is on a downward spiral.

Looking forward to the show season this year – subject to the wonderful TB of course – and on that note our landlords, the good old National Trust, are continuing with the vaccination project here which is not to all tenants’ taste seeing as other methods have been proved to be more successful…
