The monsoon weather has finally ended and we have had a few days of sunshine. Temperatures even managed to reach 18 deg C. during the second week. Thank goodness we didn’t start planting potatoes as the long range forecast predicted more rain/hail and cold temperatures (once again).
Cereals have been sprayed and fertilised – grass has been rolled and fertilised – now waiting for all crops to start growing.
We are flat out calving pedigree and commercial cows now. We have had three sets of pedigree twin calves born (successfully) in one week – just to keep us on our toes.
I think the beef processors are taking the ‘michael’ (!) with the prices they are offering us – what do they expect us to work for…. Similarly with the potato sector. I don’t blame my children for not wishing to join me in farming.
On a brighter note – a night away in sunny Cornwall was a welcomed escape (for a day and a half). It’s good to get away from the farm and catch up with friends.
Two Stockbulls are for sale this spring – Killerton Eagle and Loosebeare Exmoor. Photos are also attached for other two year old homebred bulls for sale. Our next sale in the southwest is Sedgemoor Market on the 10th April and Holsworthy on 30th April.
