It has been a very busy few months with Shows and Harvest.
JUNE – I have been supporting the local County Shows this year and have got on quite well with Killerton Soliver, winning Junior Bull and Interbreed Junior Bull at both the Royal Cornwall and Devon County Shows.
JULY – I took Killerton Soliver to the Mid Devon Show and was very pleased to win the Interbreed Show Champion award. I also won the Interbreed pairs class with Killerton Seducer and Killerton Sucha. Barley harvest started early July. The weather as it has been made for a dry harvest for all cereals and yields across the board were better than anticipated due to weather conditions. The farm had turned into bit of a desert and wheat harvest was completed by Monday 8 August. The extended dry hot weather meant that grass did not grow and no second silage cut was taken. I am glad I have quite a bit left over from 2021.
AUGUST – We put in the Stubble Turnips and Oil Seed Rape in the middle of August – gambling the weather. The Stubble Turnips have grown but the Rape is struggling. I was invited to Judge Beef classes at the Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show and the Melplash Show in August which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Decisions have been taken on my future at Columbjohn Farm and we have decided to downsize September 2023 by leaving this holding. I will continue farming on a smaller scale locally. This has been a very difficult decision to take so we will have Pedigree Limousin livestock for sale in the future . Please call me for further details.
