Monthly Diary – August 2016

Wheat Harvest at Killerton

Wheat Harvest at Killerton

Cereal harvest was finished by Wednesday 17th August which is a first for me.   Oats were average yield.  The Wheat was better than expected with good bushel weights and yield.  We managed to cut several ton under 15% which makes a pleasant change.  I hope the markets continue rising and the crops are worth growing for the future.

Killerton Limousin Young Bulls 2016

I judged the Limousins at Burwarton Show (Shropshire) .  Well done to Dinmore for winning the Limousin championship and Reserve overall.

It was one of the busiest one day shows I have ever been to with an awful lot to see.

Rainfall has been short – we seem to be in a rain-shadow.  The month has been hot and dry.  The turnips are suffering through lack of moisture and pests have been a problem.

Pheasant poults are in and looking well under the conditions and growing / feathering up fast.
