I took a team of 4 bulls and heifers to our local Honiton Show, 1st August. This is always a great day out but the weather was exceptionally hot this year. Exhibitors and animals all struggled to keep cool on the sunny showground site. Stock performed well with each one winning their respective classes.
I was invited to judge at Okehampton, Dunster and Holsworthy shows during the month. This was fun but it is always a shame that there are so few exhibitors at one days shows due to time, cost and TB restrictions.
Wheat harvest was completed during August with yields varying from very good to ‘utter crap!’.
Potato harvest started a fortnight later than usual – on the 9th August – and prices tumbled as the weeks went by. Quality was not too bad but it was an awful lot of effort. Yields were down on the average.
