It has been a while since my last Blog so here is a synopsis of events
A lot of cattle are still out due to numbers and tight building space. The winter has been mild and not too wet so damage to grass ground has been kept to a minimal. The ones outside are very healthy but some of the younger calves in sheds have posed a slight problem with pneumonia. Thank goodness for modern medicines.
Pabo TikTok has worked through the summer and got a few in calf. He was rested in the autumn and we went back to AI for a couple of months. He is now out again sweeping up, hopefully
A batch of heifers have also been AI’d to Ampertaine Jeronimo – due to his easy calving genes, and progeny being sought after
We were very successful in the S.W Limousin Club Herd Competition in 2024 – a number of prizes were won including Reserve Champion Pedigree Herd, Killerton Uncanny – Best young bull, Killerton Umama – Best heifer born 2023
I took a couple of bulls to Carlisle in October. Killerton Uncanny topped the market and Killerton Upurr sold well . A good few days away.
Killerton Uncanny takes the top price at Carlisle | British Limousin Cattle Society
I took the decision not to grow any arable crops this year – so just grass now for the cattle.
On a sad note –our long serving member of staff Dan Bird is leaving the farm to pursue his career on his family farm on the Isles of Scilly – we wish him every success. Early in the new year I will be advertising for full/part-time help – if anyone is looking for an opportunity
Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous 2025
