At the beginning of September the SW Limousin Club held their AGM at Mullion Cove Hotel in the deepest depths of Cornwall. The event was well attended and I must thank Brian Lear from Buckinghamshire for coming down and presenting the herd competition prizes. I personally had a good run :
3rd Stock Bull with Progeny – Foxhillfarm Montreal
2nd 2018 Born Bull – Killerton Obama
2nd 2019 born Bull – Killerton Planner
and to top it off
1st Extra Large Herd and
1st Best overall Herd in the South West Club
We had a good lunch in the hotel and then had a trip to see Mr Martin’s Herd overlooking the Helford river, which had buildings to die for and the cattle looked superb.
We are all looking forward to a kind autumn to make up for the frustrations of harvest but things seem to be running 10 days later than last year so drilling is about to start early October. We have just started cutting maize at the end of September but the weather is dodgy/unsettled.
I have purchased a new Senior Limousin Bull – INDIEN 57-06-012-651 – from George Smith in Daventry. Indien is a big, well boned French Bull to put on some smaller cows. I am perhaps going against the modern trend but our markets seem to be changing. Time will tell.
Sadly the Ballinloan saga carries on with no good news for breeders and unfortunately one of the young bulls purchased early this year has not worked.
