Monthly Diary – September 2016

I started the month off in the North West Midlands and North Wales area judging their herd competition with my wife as navigator.  Fantastic weather except for one day, terrific herds and cattle to view in some wonderful settings.   I would like to thank all those who participated – 21 farms and 1000 miles in 6 days.

Killerton Malachite

We came home to our own SW Club results and AGM.  Killerton Malachite was 2nd for the best bull calf born 2016 class and Killerton LongJohn (late Autust born) was 3rd in the 2015 bull class – which I was very pleased with.

I went to Scotland for a “study tour” of the highlands inspecting wildlife on high ground, wind turbines and hydro-electric sites.  This was very enjoyable, fantastic weather and no rain.  Very educational!

At the end of September we started drilling winter wheat into ideal soil conditions – hoping the price of what we are growing will increase  due to currency/Brexit uncertainties.

We have bulls entered for the Carlisle October sale – fingers crossed.
