We have finally moved into our new house despite the fact that it is not finished – so I have joined the ‘commuters to work group’ even though it is only three miles away.
A lot of cattle have stayed out over winter on Stubble Turnips – which we have just run out of. Due to the appalling weather conditions we are now feeding them in the turnip field and making a bigger mess as grass fields are too wet to graze.
After a visit to Carlisle in February, I have invested in a new stockbull PABO TIKTOK. Hopefully he will go on to breed successfully and improve the shape of the progeny to come. I have taken a punt with a F94L/NT gene – fingers crossed we have not sacrificed easy calving for the future. Time will tell.

Calving has just begun indoors at Higher Bussells – so far so good. It will be an unusual spring for us as we have few cows and heifers due to calve.
There seems to be positive interest in pedigree Limousin Bulls for this coming year – I have had many enquiries and sold more spring bulls off farm than usual. There has also been much interest in younger bulls – around 12 months of age. Long may it continue.
Now that the arable side of the business has reduced – what little we do have in the ground is looking very well considering the excess precipitation.
