Monthly Diary – January 2017

Patrick Greed and Ben May

Patrick Greed and Ben May

Shooting season now finished so it’s time to knuckle down.   An enjoyable season which involved driving over the whole country and meeting a lot of like-minded people .  The weather has been kind for sport and keeping livestock outside.   It was bound to change and it has now with a vengeance.   After some hard frosts and a lot of rain the ground has become quite wet – the cattle on stubble turnips are not appreciating it.

Looking to the future I am hopefully taking a charolais bull to Welshpool on 9th February and a limousin bull Killerton Lochlomond  to Carlisle on the 18th February.  Three limousin bulls also booked for the Brecon Sale (McCartneys) in March.

Cereal prices have improved a bit recently and the beef price has also moved in the right direction.

Good news – my single farm payment arrived at the end of January.  Just awaiting verification that RPA have paid in full.

Just started calving with mixed results.
