January has rushed by and sadly the shoot season has come to a close. We have only had a few calves born this month – a few heifers are due in February but the main herd are due to calve March onwards.
The weather has been quite kind to the cows outwintering on stubble turnips – a bit wet but not too cold. Most calves are housed this winter – just a few heifers staying outside with the cows.
It has been good to see the fuel prices fall this winter – anything that reduces our overheads has to be good for all of us and helps with the margins.
Some potato equipment sold – Anyone looking for planting gear before I get tempted to change my mind!!
