Good news – we passed our TB test which takes one pressure away for a few months. So in addition to our bulls, we now have pedigree heifers sale – some have been AI’d and others fit for bull or younger.
I took a charolais bull to Welshpool, which had previously won 2016 Bull of the Year at the SW Beef event. Trade was sticky but we did manage to sell him.
7 days later, off to Carlisle with Killerton Lochlomond. The trade was very good with a lot of breeders looking for limousin stock bulls and I was pleased with the final price received on the day. I had my eye on one or two but the trade was too strong and the risk of TB/compensation puts me off investing too heavily (and my sidekick Michael Kirby kept telling me to stop!).
We have recently done PD’ing on cows and glad to say Emslies Horny and Norman Harvest are both working well. Confluence Leyton has also got a few heifers in calf which is always good news.
The weather has been reasonably kind for the cattle outside on turnips.
One more spring sale – the Brecon Pedigree Limousin Sale on 4th March where I will be taking 3 young bulls hopefully.
