Shooting season finished and time to work sadly ….. TB Testing carried out and had two I.R.s which is a pain. More work, agro, stress and uncertainty.
I purchased a fresh stock bull in Carlisle to go to work on pedigree heifers. We were pleased with our last Cerberus son as he has left a good crop of young stock off Loosebeare Exmoor daughters. Sadly we lost Rosecroft Hero, hence the need for a quality replacement. Finding fresh bloodlines is proving difficult.
I took three bulls to Brecon which were sold. It was a small sale but the trade was quite positive. Vendors were more concerned about receipt of single farm payments rather than purchasing bulls.
The weather has been cold and very wet this month which has resulted in no grass growth and livestock having to stay inside.
My landlords, the National Trust, seem to think that agriculture is going through a good time as they wish to put my rent up by 30%. We have a new agent who would appear to be trying to prove himself. I certainly wish my income could match the potential rent increase.
Lets hope spring is around the corner as we are just started calving.
