Limousin Killerton Gucci Breed Champion 2013

Killerton Gucci (with owner Patrick Greed of the Killerton Herd) takes top prize as Breed Champion and Interbreed Champion at the 2013 Devon County Show

Finally a good month in Devon … I was delighted to be awarded the Interbreed Beef Champion prize at our first show for 2013 – Devon County Show held mid May.  This was our first outing with a team comprising senior bull Kaprico Donato (Male Breed Champion), Junior Bulls Killerton Handel and Killerton Hillbilly (2nd and 3rd in class), 2 year old Heifer Killerton Gucci (female champion and Interbreed champion) and junior heifers Killerton Hera and Killerton Harmonica (2nd and 3rd in class).  Gucci is out of a strong home bred cow Killerton Darcy (sire Lowabbey United, dam Killerton Trudy).

On our outing to the pedigree sale at Brecon (11 May)  we achieved Junior Champion and Reserve overall champion with Killerton Guage.  Trade was selective but we sold four bulls which made the journey worthwhile.

Back on the farm – grass has finally started growing in time for June first cut silage and the potatoes are coming through.  As a result of the warm spell we are likely to start irrigating potatoes quite soon!  All crops seem to be running at least a fortnight late, whether the sun brings them up to speed remains to be seen.
