Despite yet more unseasonal weather I have just returned from a successful (and enjoyable) Royal Cornwall Show. Driving rain and gale force wind on the opening day made showing difficult but I was delighted to win Male / Breed Champion with Kaprico Donato. He went forward to the Interbreed classes on Friday morning where he was placed Reserve Champion – the overall interbreed award going to Colin Hutchings with his Aberdeen Angus bull Kingsbrompton Endeavour. The Interbreed Pairs Class was won by the Limousin breed – with the winning pair Kaprico Donato and Brickhill Carol (Mr. & Mrs. D.K. Wheeler).
Donato is now “on holiday” or “back to work” – whichever way you look at it – currently running out with a group of 22 pedigree heifers. We have tried to AI a few of this group but in order to keep the calving period fairly tight we have Donato, a very easy calving sire, running with them.
We have recently seen an increase in pedigree bull enquiries – with Limousins being sold to new and existing farms across the country including Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire and Somerset.
Sadly barley is now falling over but on a positive note we don’t have to irrigate potatoes!
