My monthly diary seems to have migrated to almost every 6 months and time keeps flying by …
We have not had any rain to speak of since the beginning of June so we are well and truly a Devon Desert – having to feed everything similar to winter but all outside. I purchased extra hay and straw for the first time in my life to see us through due to lack of feed being made this year.
On a positive note – Bull sales throughout the spring and summer have been reasonably strong with more clients appreciating the effort that goes into breeding good quality livestock.
Killerton Limousin have been at Devon County and Royal Cornwall shows this summer – with various degrees of success. We have also supported our local one day shows – Mid Devon and Honiton – with Killerton Verity and Killerton Victor who have been reserve interbreed champions.
Charlie Winship has been helping prepare animals for showing and undertaking day to day work on the farm.
Thank goodness we vaccinated in 2025 and 2026 for Bluetongue – but I am unsure if we have totally escaped the wrath of the little midge due to odd occurrences in the herd.
We have had the first calves born / sired by Killerton Victor and Reddings Virgo – who we ran with heifers last year. They have calved on their own, unassisted, which is really good news.
