Monthly Diary – April 2013

We have finally had some sunny weather which has enabled us to turn out most of the cattle and finish planting potatoes (6 weeks later than 2012).  However, the cold wind is holding back growth – with some autumn crops looking dubious and I am considering re-ploughing/re-drilling but the clock is ticking on.  The ‘patched’ winter cereal fields have not really recovered/got going.

Holsworthy and Sedgemoor sales held during April were very successful and 1 sold 6 bulls.  Female trade was slow at Sedgemoor with just one Killerton heifer sold.  I have a number of maiden/in calf heifers for sale this year as with over 120 pedigree limousins calving we have a potential surplus of females.

I am off to Brecon Market on 11th May with a group of young bulls.  All trade is unpredictable but hopefully the buyers will be in attendance.

Our first show for 2013 is Devon County Show held at Westpoint, Exeter on 16th-19 May.  I will be taking a selection of bulls and heifers and look forward to catching up with friends after a long wet winter.
